Exports of blueberries make up almost 50% of the total berries supply from Ukraine

According to propozitsiya.com with reference to the message of the Ukrainian Fruit and Vegetable Association today only 44% of total soft berries supplies from Ukraine fall on fresh and frozen blueberries.

It is reported that the situation was different three years ago. At that time, about 90% of all exports accounted for wild berries, that is, the production and export of garden berries in Ukraine have developed rapidly in recent years, for instance raspberries export reached 29%, and three years ago its share was only 5-7%.

The export share of strawberries is also growing; it has already reached 12% compared to 5% three years ago.

The Association notes that the share of fresh berries in the total berries export, including wild ones, grows quite noticeably, and in 2017 reached almost 17%, as distinct from 3% three years ago. There is an opposite tendency in the field of garden berries - the share of frozen berries grows, mainly due to the fast increase of raspberry export, which is usually transported frozen.

“We expect that export of blueberries will be further declining as many people engaged in the process of picking wild berries left Ukraine and moved to EU for seasonal work , after cancelling visas for Ukrainians.“ – assume representatives of Association.
